Come one, come all to catch up on this past week of Warcraft! With XiaoKK hosting an exciting team cup, as well as all the usual weekly shenanigans, here is what happened this week in Warcraft.
A team cup sponsored by XioaKK in which captains TH000, FoCuS, 120, and Life drafted 3 other players each to battle it out for the ~$1200 prize pool.
Team 120 showed up for this tournament. After a questionable first series, in which they defeated the last place team FoCuS by a single point in the decisive 2v2 game, team 120 didn’t look back as they swept team TH000 4-0 and took the grand finals from team Life 4-1. Highlights include Sok beating Romantic in a human mirror, and 120 single-handedly eliminating team Life in the King of the Hill style finals.
Team Life also had an exciting run this tournament, with all their series except the grand finals going all the way to seven points, despite a disappointing performance from superstar Fly100%, who did not win a single map all tournament. Highlights include defeating team TH000 in the lower bracket final in a rematch of their first series in the upper bracket semifinal.
Hols Cup is a one-day cup hosted weekly by the Korean streaming company NicegameTV, and played on NetEase-servers.
Vitalus Cup is a 2v2 Russian Cup organized by hundredkg on Goodgame.ru. This edition featured teams such as Foggy and Pooh, OrcWorker and Deathnote, Blade and Bizzare, LawLiet and So.in, and Happy and Cash.
Does it surprise anyone when Happy dominates a European Cup anymore? The Russian duo did not drop a single map all tournament, beating LawLiet and So.in in the finals (which occurred after 5am for the Asian players) to earn ~$100 between themselves.
Does it seem like this description was an exact copy and paste of last week’s Vitalius Cup? That’s because it is! Overall the tournament felt quite similar to the previous week’s edition in terms of results. The final map of the tournament, where Cash and Happy faced off against LawLiet and So.in, was an exciting game where LawLiet and So.in tried a mass expansion strategy to beat the Russian duo. Unfortunately, the strategy was unsuccessful, as the mass-stun-hero-nuking strategy of Happy and Cash proved too strong in the final battle.
Cash and Happy's strong heroes won them the final fight of Vitalius Cup #3
Gera Cup is a weekly russian cup with about one hundred $ for the winner. The tournament is hosted by GoodGame.ru, and played on the W3A-servers.
A classic Gera Cup Final saw FoCuS playing Happy for the ~$100 prize pool. Happy managed to take the series 3-2, bringing the number of maps won between the two players up to 53:52 in favour of Happy.
As an aside, Turbosau mentioned to me this past weekend that Happy vs FoCuS is the most played matchup of 2017 in our database, with the maps 45:42 over 23 matches in favour of Happy.
