About matchup ratings

The matchup rating is the player's Elo adjusted for how they do against each race. For every opponent race, we compare the player's map results against what their overall Elo and their opponents' Elo would predict, and turn the difference into a modifier. Modifiers are relative: they average out to zero across a player's maps, so they show which races a player does better or worse against, not how strong they are overall. Only part of that modifier is applied, scaled by a weight that is fitted so the ratings predict recent results as well as possible, which keeps small samples from swinging the rating. The modifier depends only on the opponent's race, so players who switch races get one modifier per opponent race. Matchup ratings are updated daily.

The model was designed by Back2Warcraft. Hover a modifier to see how many maps it is based on.
